From February 28 to March 1, 2020, the capital of Chuvashia hosted the Russian Sambo Championship. The event was supported by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Sambo Federation, the Administration of the Head of the Chuvash Republic, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chuvash Republic, and the Chuvash Republican Sambo Federation. EKRA was an official partner of the competition.
This year the competition was held according to new regulations and in three disciplines at once: women's, men's, and combat sambo. Chuvashia was represented by 9 athletes, three of whom made it to the podium: International Master of Sports Vera Lotkova took first place in the 52kg weight category and Russian Master of Sports Natalia Stepanova took bronze in the same weight category. Elena Bondareva, leader of the Chuvash national team, Honored Russian Master of Sports, four-time World Champion in Sambo, reigning champion of Russia in the weight category of up to 48kg, won a fifth gold medal at the Russian Championship. In addition to the highest award, Elena received an apartment certificate from Arkady Rotenberg, Head of the Combat Sambo League, and Andrey Furashov, Chairman of EKRA Group.
During the three-day event, the strongest athletes of Russia competed for 27 sets of medals, and the tournament results also determined places in the national team.
